The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups, educates law enforcement on hate groups, provides educational materials to teachers on teaching tolerance and pluralism, and uses the courts to limit the activities of hate groups. Founded in 1971 in Montgomery Alabama, the SPLC has succeeded in reversing segregation, dismantling Jim Crow, shutting down the some of the nation's most violent white supremacist groups by winning multimillion dollar judgments against them. SPLC fights for equality for women, children, LGBT, disabled, and immigrants from exploitation and discrimination.
